Frequently Asked Questions
How accurate is the body fat calculator?
This calculator uses the U.S. Navy method, which is considered reasonably accurate for most people (±3-4% error range). However, it's not as precise as methods like DEXA scans or hydrostatic weighing. It's best used to track changes over time rather than for absolute accuracy.
What is a healthy body fat percentage?
For men, essential fat is 2-5%, athletes typically range from 6-13%, fitness level is 14-17%, average is 18-24%, and obesity is considered 25% or higher. For women, essential fat is 10-13%, athletes typically range from 14-20%, fitness level is 21-24%, average is 25-31%, and obesity is considered 32% or higher.
How do I take measurements correctly?
For accurate results, take measurements with a flexible tape measure. Neck: measure at the narrowest point, below the Adam's apple. Waist: measure at the level of the navel for men or the narrowest part for women. Hip (women only): measure at the widest part of the buttocks. All measurements should be taken while standing relaxed, not flexing muscles.
